Equipping Local Rapid Response Teams
Following the events of October 7, the urgent need to strengthen civilian security, particularly in the rural northern communities, became abundantly clear. Galila launched a large-scale initiative to provide protective and medical equipment to frontline communities, in collaboration with local councils and other organizations. Through this project, we supplied over 2,000 kits—including protective equipment, lighting, and first aid packs—to 140 communities in every region across the Galilee in northern Israel, at an overall cost of around 10 million NIS (US$ 3 million). Over 100 volunteers from across the North joined in the effort. We continue to map on-the-ground needs in order to replenish and upgrade equipment wherever necessary and to support the expansion of local first responders’ units in every community – large and small – across the entire region.
Equipping Firefighting Forces
Hezbollah attacks from the north sparked numerous fires in open areas and communities, devastating more than 45,000 dunams of forests, farmland, and poultry farms. With firefighting capabilities stretched and equipment inside the communities very limited, we took immediate action. Galila distributed firefighting kits to dozens of communities across various regional councils in northern Israel. These kits included personal protective gear for 10 team members, water hoses, and fire hydrants. This project enables local response teams from the communities to tackle fires quickly and effectively, saving lives and protecting property while reducing the risks faced by emergency responders who had previously operated with inadequate equipment.
Establishing Civilian Emergency Operation Centers (EOCs)
As the conflict expanded across multiple fronts in the north, many communities required civilian emergency operations centers (EOCs) to manage the crisis and deliver coordinated, professional support to their community residents. In response, we partnered with all regional councils in the North, conducted comprehensive needs assessments for each community, and established fully equipped EOCs. These centers include computers, screens, desks, chairs, storage units, wall boards, and essential safety and medical supplies.
The “Amlachiyah” Initiative
In the heart of the Upper Galilee, a unique grassroots initiative emerged to support local response teams: the “Amlachiyah” workshop. Driven by volunteers, the workshop developed customized textile solutions and provided high-quality gear to hundreds of volunteers. Every item—from tactical clothing to durable backpacks—were especially designed to meet the operational needs of the teams. Beyond the practical assistance, the initiative fostered a strong sense of belonging and communal responsibility, raising awareness of the importance of collective contribution during times of crisis. The “Amlachiyah” project stands as a powerful example of volunteerism and innovation in action, and continues to evolve to meet the changing needs of local rapid response teams.
